Historic Tax Credit Webinar: Binghamton Focus

March 30, 2022

The Preservation League is pleased to present this FREE webinar in partnership with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, APA Upstate Chapter, the City of Binghamton, and Binghamton Economic Development.

Who should attend? Homeowners, income property and business owners, real estate professionals, community leaders, planners, architects, and anyone eager to learn about new opportunities for community reinvestment through historic preservation. This program will have a special focus on the City of Binghamton, but all are welcome.

Beth Cumming of the New York State Historic Preservation Office and City of Binghamton Historic Preservation Planner Sean McGee will explore:
  • The 20% NYS Homeowner Historic Tax Credit Program that helps rehabilitate eligible residential properties. Learn about this program and how to determine if your home is eligible.

  • The 20%-30% NYS Historic Tax Credit for Income Producing Properties is used in combination with the Federal Historic Tax Credit Program (an additional 20%), providing a total of up to 50% in historic tax credits to rehabilitate income-producing properties.

  • The positive impact historic preservation and historic tax credits have on community revitalization in NYS communities.
Planners earn 1.5 CM AICP Planning credit
Architects earn 1.5 CE HSW credit (not AIA)

Email @jrudler@preservenys.org during or after the program to indicate your intent to claim education credits. Please specify whether you are seeking Architect or Planner credits. Architects will receive certificates of completion for self-reporting and Planners’ attendance will be reported by the League to the APA Upstate Chapter on the attendees' behalf. See below for details on these credits and reporting requirements.

Architect Credits
1.5 Continuing Education (CE) Credits are available for this program. Continuing Education credits for architects are offered through the Preservation League of New York State and the New York State Education Department. These credits are HSW (Health, Safety, Welfare) credit hours and are not associated with the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The Preservation League of New York State will issue certificates of completion to architects who obtain credit to keep for their personal records and reporting only. The Preservation League will not be reporting an architect’s attendance to any entity.

Planning Credits
AICP members can earn 1.5 Certification Maintenance (CM) credits for this webinar through the upstate chapter of the APA. When CM credits are available, they are noted at the end of an activity description. More information about AICP’s CM program can be found at www.planning.org/cm. AICP members must be in attendance for the duration of the event in order to receive CM Credit.

A recording of this program will be available on the League’s YouTube Channel, with the exception of the accompanying Q&A session.
