Manzanar - Living History Project
May 14, 2022 |
In collaboration with Pasadena Heritage and on the 80th Anniversary of Executive Order 9066, Kansha Pasadena is planning a Manzanar Living History project to take members of the greater Pasadena community on a day-long bus tour to Manzanar. Many people are unaware of the injustices suffered by Japanese Americans before, during and after WWII. The program will have Japanese Americans tell their stories of the incarceration, discrimination and hardships they endured from March 1942 to November 1945. Upon arrival at Manzanar, the National Park Service will lead the group on a narrative tour of the concentration camp followed by lunch in the Manzanar Mess Hall. Space will be limited. An interest list is now being formed.
If you are interested, please contact Bryan Takeda at affinity2000@earthlink.net or call (626) 396-9927.
KANSHA PASADENA strives to honor, preserve, and share the unique history and culture of Japanese Americans in the Greater Pasadena area by researching and documenting family histories, personal stories, cultural sites and historic buildings. (Kansha means Gratitude in Japanese). Kansha Pasadena is thankful to the Pasadena Nikkei Seniors, Inc. for their support and for serving as their fiscal sponsor.
