Wilder Museum Open

September 1 - October 15, 2022
Wilder Museum Open

The Wilder Museum of Warren County History, 51 Erie Avenue, Irvine, PA 16329, is open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-5 PM.  Be sure to visit while you can! Enjoy the 17 exhibit rooms and explore over 4,000 artifacts.

Popular exhibits include the Military Alcove which features uniforms, medals, and other historical items ranging from the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm. Memorabilia includes a captured Nazi flag by two men from Warren County and a cannonball from the Civil War. The Era Gone By exhibit room highlights the Victorian Era’s style and elegance with 19th Century dress wear, household appliances, kitchen utensils, recreational items, and more. Perhaps the most popular draw in the Era Gone by Room is the antique gun collection of Joseph DeFrees, which boasts a selection of fine weaponry such as flintlocks and 1830s dueling pistols.

Other fascinating exhibits include the Seneca Nation Room that displays artifacts dating back to 6,000 B.C., excavated from the Irvine Flats by the Archaeology Department from Mercyhurst University. The Old Time Doctor’s Office has displays of antique medical instruments and equipment, bottles of medicine, and “remedies,” as well as nurses’ uniforms from local physicians’ offices. Our 1950s Kitchen exhibit has an antique Ironrite Mangle, once renowned as one of the most state-of-the-art ironing machines of its day. The Agriculture Room features a 1860s authentic covered wagon and farm equipment, reflecting the quintessential country way of life in our area.

Exhibits displaying our area’s rich history in oil, lumber and railroads tell the story of the development and progress of early Warren County.  The Wilder Museum is also home to the Grandin Opera House piano, the original witness stand from the Warren County Courthouse, the gun used by Norman Moon in the 1954 assassination of Judge Allison Wade, locally made furniture, antique toys, and so much more.

The Gift Shop has a wide variety of items available for purchase including historical books, maps, and locally-crafted artwork such as paintings, woodwork, and jewelry.

The cost of admission is $5 per person and $1 per student. Members are admitted free of charge.
