Preserving Memory: The Chinatown-International District
June 26, 2008 |
A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Wing Luke Asian Museum is the premier pan-Asian Pacific American museum in the country. It also took a significant step into the historic preservation arena when it chose to raise $23.2 million to rehabilitate the historic East Kong Yick Building and adapted it as its permanent home. The Museum’s new facility expands its role as an economic and community resource for a distinctly diverse neighborhood, as one of Seattle's historic and creative treasures, and as a cultural institution of national significance. We are pleased to see the museum with Ron Chew, former executive director, whose vision led to this new era for the Wing Luke. Participants will then proceed to a wonderfully prepared banquet at a Chinatown restaurant.
