Old North to Host a Fun Independence Day Celebration
July 4, 2023 |
On July 4 from 10am - 5pm, Old North will celebrate Independence Day with a fun family-friendly event. This year’s festivities will include story time for children; dramatic performances of the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride;” guided tours of the church’s gallery, bell tower, and nearby Copp’s Hill Burying Ground; and an interactive experience with public historian Adam Hodges-LeClaire.
In his presentation, Adam will examine how Bostonians working and living outdoors dressed for the sweltering summer heat 250 years ago. Guests will have the chance to check out an ongoing 18th century tailoring demonstration as well as reproduction 1770s summer clothing and accessories as they explore the wardrobes that Americans developed to "beat the heat" before air conditioning and suntan lotion. The presentation is suitable for ages from elementary school on up.
In the evening, Old North Church will host a performance of the original play Revolution’s Edge, with doors opening at 5pm. Get tickets for the Independence Day celebration on our website!
