Beyond Sustainability: Living Architecture in the 21st Century
March 23, 2024 |
During the later decades of the 20th century, a growing environmental crisis coupled with emerging technologies inspired several architects worldwide to explore more eco-friendly architecture. Since then, a growing recognition that the eco-sciences and building technologies must work together has yielded many advances in sustainable, biomimetic, and regenerative building, guided in part by the LEED program (Leadership in Energy Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and more recently by the Living Building Challenge, administered by the International Living Future Institute.
Lindsay Baker, is CEO and chief strategist for the Living Building Challenge, administered by the International Living Future Institute. She previously helped create the LEED rating system with the US Green Building Council, was a Building Science researcher at UC Berkeley, led the global Sustainability and Impact Team at WeWork, co-founded the smart buildings digital platform Comfy, and held roles at Google and Rocky Mountain Institute.
