Historic Hearth Cooking Seminar
February 3, 2024 |
Hearth cooking was arguably one of the most important jobs performed on a plantation. At Poplar Forest, Jefferson’s enslaved cook Hannah would have been in charge of the kitchen in Jefferson’s Wing of Offices and would have overseen all cooking done for Jefferson and his family. Join Poplar Forest staff members Vince Fastabend and Mary Kesler for an in-depth look at the art of hearth cooking. And watch as they demonstrate the process of creating a meal from scratch using an open hearth, bread oven and stew stoves. Admission is $30 and includes admission to the property and self-guided exhibits; reservations are encouraged as spots for each seminar are limited.
Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
