Please join the Conservancy board, staff, and fellow members for our 2008 annual meeting, where we will:
- Introduce the newly elected members of the Board of Directors
- Present our annual Volunteer Recognition Awards
- Review the past year in preservation
- Have a special program on the work of architect Gerard Colcord by Conservancy member Bret Parsons
The event is free and open to the public, though parking at Pacific Design Center costs $8 (there is limited metered street parking in the area). Light refreshments will be served. Reservations are not required but are recommended (e-mail info@laconservancy.org).
About Gerard Colcord:
In his sixty-year career, Beverly Hills-based architect Gerard R. Colcord built an architectural legacy of more than 300 residential estates in Southern California. He worked in a variety of styles, ranging from Tudor, Country French, Hollywood Regency, Spanish Hacienda, contemporary, and Monterey Colonial, to his best-known genre, the sprawling “Country Colonials.”
Colcord was born in St. Louis and educated in the U.S. and Europe. He moved to Los Angeles in 1924, working with distinguished and celebrated clients until his death in 1984. Colcord was also an artist and richly illustrated all of his designs.
Mr. Colcord’s complete archives for use in the newly written monograph, Gerard Colcord: Hollywood’s Society Architect (Angel City Press, July 2008). Parsons will discuss the life and work of this long-overlooked yet significant architect.
