NCSHPO presents the National Historic Tax Credit Conference 2008

September 24-26, 2008

Mixed-use friendly, smart growth oriented, inherently ‘green’ and in sync with today’s real estate market - federal and state Historic Tax Credits (HTCs) have stimulated private investment, preserved historic buildings and breathed new life into communities.

The National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO) is pleased to present the annual National Historic Tax Credit Conference 2008 at The Blackstone, a historic hotel in Chicago. The NCSHPO represents America’s State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPOs), the officials with the frontline responsibility for tax credit review.This conference marks the one time each year that everyone involved in Historic Tax Credits - public agencies, private owners and developers, and nonprofit organizations - assemble to update their knowledge on the rehab tax credits and meet colleagues from around the country.

Over three days, expert-led panels will provide new case studies, the latest in best practices, and open discussions about HTCs. You won’t want to miss this chance to get unbeatable guidance and insider tips as well as the chance to participate in shaping policy for the industry. The conference will cover all the key topics, including:

  • Innovations in tax structuring techniques, including twinning the HTC with other credits;
  • Strategies for adaptive reuse of historic buildings for affordable housing, including a HUD update;
  • Roundtables on the state of the market and the impact of economic downturn on HTC projects;
  • Two concurrent tracks: one exploring issues at the intersection of design and project feasibility and the other focusing on hospitality, hotel development and the HTC; and
  • Late-breaking developments from Congress affecting tax credits and community development.
