R.E. Olds & the First Auto City Film Preview Screening

November 20, 2018 - January 20, 2019
R.E. Olds & the First Auto City Film Preview Screening
Beyond the designation of Lansing as the state capital in the middle of the 19th Century, the gift to the Olds Motor Works of the State Fairgrounds on the city’s south side in 1901 was the second most important thing to happen to the city of Lansing. That transaction is a defining moment in the making of the identity of the city- it represents Lansing’s transition to the manufacturing of automobiles that would drive commerce and transportation throughout the world in the 20th Century and beyond.
This film project explores the industries of Lansing preceding the coming of the automobile; the career of R.E. Olds, the person most responsible for the modernization of the community; the local economy that grew out of the automobile trade; and R.E. Olds’ life outside of his automobile companies.

Biddle City Productions has worked with Michael Rodriguez and the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum to bring this story to life in a new film utilizing historical photographs, interviews, and historical and contemporary film footage.
