The National Lighthouse Museum, Staten Island, NY Lecture/Educational Series Continue

Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the National Lighthouse Museum, 200 the Promenade at Lighthouse Point, St.George, (adjacent to the Free Staten Island Ferry) Staten Island NY 10301, 2-4 pm, Professor Ira Breskin, Senior Lecturer at SUNY Maritime College will discuss Hot Button Issues Facing the Shipping Industry. He is a journalist, lecturer, and editor, focusing on maritime-related subjects and is the author of "The Business of Shipping."

To his lectures and writing, Breskin brings more than 25 years of experience as a business journalist. Professor Breskin will cover topical subjects of prime interest to those impacted by ships including consumers, cruise ship and ferry passengers, environmentalists and those who admire, finance, insure or operate ships. Among the specific topics addressed are:
  • The impact of excess supply of container ship capacity to consumers in terms of cost and reliability of product delivery.
  • The increasing cost of maritime security.
  • The long-term geopolitical threat posed by China's One Belt, One Road policy.
  • The cost/ benefit attached to more stringent ship-specific environmental rules and regulations.
  • The rationale for burgeoning ferry service in NYC and elsewhere.
