Hands-on Preservation Workshops in Astoria Oregon
Registration is now open for Fall hands-on preservation workshops.

Fall Historic Preservation workshops
Clatsop Community College
Historic Preservation Program
Astoria, Oregon

Learn traditional skills in short hands-on weekend workshops. These workshops are open to anyone interested in preservation crafts.

BLD 229: Historic Building Assessment
Get practical hands-on experience in analysis and documentation of an historic building. Students will assist in a preliminary assessment of existing building conditions, including materials, components and systems to determine qualities and deterioration. You will also review available historical information. The Lindgren Cabin is a hand hewn cedar cabin built in 1922 on the Nehalem River and later moved to Cullaby Lake.
Dates: Saturday-Sunday, 12-13 Oct.
Location: Lindgren Cabin, Cullaby Lake County Park

BLD 228: Woodwork Reproduction
Assess, document, and reproduce exterior siding and woodwork. Use traditional tools and methods to plan, measure, and create cedar building components for the reconstructed 1852 Custom House. The building was completed in 1994 using methods, tools and materials of the original construction.
Dates: Saturday-Sunday, 26-27 Oct.
Location: 1852 Custom House, Astoria

BLD 226: Wood Window Restoration
Learn history and terminology, and gain knowledge and skills to document and restore historic wood windows. Students will work on double-hung windows in the historic Merwyn Hotel. The long negleted building is being redeveloped into affordable housing.
Dates: Saturday-Sunday, 16-17 & 23-24 Nov.
