Lecture at Linden Place: Four Eagles – Appreciating Bristol’s History and Heritage

Lecture at Linden Place: Four Eagles – Appreciating Bristol’s History and Heritage
This talk with homeowner, Garry Holmstrom, will shed light on one of downtown Bristol’s most notable historic homes

Have youseen the eagles of Four Eagles, one of downtown Bristol’s most notable historic homes located at 341 Hope Street? Join us to review the history, legends, and recent discoveries behind ‘The John Howe House’, or ‘The House with the Four
Eagles’ as it was called for decades, during a discussion on Thursday, September 12 at 7 PM in the Linden Place Ballroom.

Last year, the most recent 2-year restoration of the four Eagles that grace the four
corners of this Federal-style home concluded. Bristol has long appreciated
these symbols of national pride and strength, however, they have not always adorned the corner posts of the 1808 Federal Home balustrade.  Are they significant? Are they carved wood, replicas, or simple ornaments? Come and find out!

The discussion
and slide presentation will be led by the current owner and occupant of the home,
Garry Holmstrom. We’ll discuss this significant Russell Warren home with
Chippendale Balustrade that occupies a significant location and historical
presence in ‘The Village’ of Bristol, RI.

A great
event for any local historian, preservation buff or curious appreciator of
historic architecture. Bring a friend and/or a Bristolian who can add to the
history! Admission is $5, free for Linden Place members. Reservations can be
made by calling the Linden Place office at 401-253-0390 or info@lindenplace.org
