Architectural Plastics & Polymer Composites in the 21st Century: Design & Preservation of...

March 20-21, 2021

The intensive two-day "Architectural Plastics and Polymer Composites in the 21st Century: Design & Preservation of Contemporary & Historic Architecture" conference, originally scheduled for late March 2020 but cancelled because of Covid-19, will now be held on March 20-21, 2021 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An optional tour will be offered on March 22.

This meeting, organized by Technology & Conservation, the Boston Society of Architects/AIA's Historic Resources Committee, and Prof. Goulthorpe, MIT Department of Architecture, will feature presentations by over 35 leaders in the fields of architecture, engineering, polymer technology, and conservation. The topics that will be covered in the conference include: properties and performance of polymeric materials, energy and sustainability aspects of plastics/polymers, life cycle analysis, advances in fabrication and assessment/treatment methods, and new developments in the conservation and care of buildings and their components, bridges, and other structures, as well as of artistic works. In addition, a number of case histories dealing with traditional and modern architecture and cultural properties that utilize polymeric materials will be detailed.

For additional information, contact Susan E. Schur, Hon. AIA, FAPT, Conference Chair, email: ses_tec_con@msn.com. (Online information on the conference will be posted during the summer on the website for the Historic Resources Committee, Boston Society of Architects.)
