Demystifying Documentation Technologies (Documentation technologies: past, present and future)
October 2-4, 2020 |
This workshop will take place over 3 half days (approximately 4hrs per day), and will be delivered over a digital conferencing system. Participants will be introduced to the need for the recording of heritage places to inform the best conservation (preservation) approaches. Led by heritage recording specialists, a variety of documentation technologies are explored, from capturing techniques, processing of the captured data into deliverables, leveraging these products for activities such as analysis and condition assessments and dissemination methods which are especially important during this time requiring remote access to sites.
Participants will be asked to select one of 3 sessions for the Day 2 of the workshop. This will allow participants to get a broader session, and facilitate integration and exchanges with the workshop presenters. The 3 sessions will cover large to small scale surveys. For large scale surveys, participants will be exposed to commercial and open source tools. For medium size projects, the use of photography, photogrammetry and laser scanning will be covered. And for smaller scale surveys, a variety of tools will be explored from HBIM (Historic Building Information Models), condition assessments and tools that link to HBIM’s.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the role and need of heritage documentation in the conservation (preservation) of historic places
- Evaluate and formulate an appropriate method for heritage documentation
- Determine and maximize the use of existing and new heritage records
- Evaluate and examine of what to specify when requesting heritage documentation
- Participants will be able to assess the continuous evolution of new tools and methods
