Washington Barn Week

September 21-24, 2020
Washington Barn Week
Barn Week is like Shark Week, but with less blood and more red paint. It’s a week-long virtual celebration of Washington's historic barns and the people who love them. It’s a week of virtual panels, presentations, and tours; a week of trivia contests; a week of dazzling barn rehabs; and a week of exploring those iconic structures that stand as symbols of progress, industriousness, and our agricultural heritage.

Barn Week is for everyone who appreciates and wants to learn more about Washington’s barns and their stories. It’s for barn owners and barn enthusiasts, rural road trippers, photographers, local history buffs, fans of great architecture, preservationists, and anyone who has ever been to a wedding in a barn.

Barn Week will be held online via Zoom, Facebook, and Instagram from Monday, September 21 through Thursday, September 24. Each day of Barn Week, we’ll bring together barn experts, owners, and enthusiasts from across the state for virtual sessions exploring the care and keeping of Washington’s historic barns. These mini-events will be held daily at 12:00 noon on Zoom. Visit our website to pre-register!

Monday, September 21: “For the Love of Barns” panel.
Tuesday, September 22: Introduction to the Barns of Washington with Michael Houser, State Architectural Historian.
Wednesday, September 23: Barn Rehabs and Restorations, featuring projects from the Washington Heritage Barn Grant program.
Thursday, September 24: Barn Preservation Virtual Field School with Dr. Harrison Goodall, historic preservation expert.

In addition to these Zoom events, each day of Barn Week will feature bonus content on Facebook and Instagram, including daily trivia contests and highlights from Washington’s Heritage Barn Register. More opportunities to get involved and share your own barn stories will also be available throughout the week. Thanks to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, all events and content are offered FREE to the public.
