Hands-on Preservation Workshops in Astoria Oregon
Registration is now open for Fall hands-on preservation workshops.

Fall 2021 Historic Preservation workshops
Historic Preservation Program
Clatsop Community College
Astoria, Oregon

Learn traditional skills in short hands-on weekend workshops. These workshops are open to anyone interested in preservation crafts. College credit available.

BLD 223: Facade Restoration
Students assess, document and restore/replace exterior siding and woodwork on an historic building. Students will learn techniques for structural repair, rot repair, siding and trim installation, and wood treatment. Work will be done on an historic (1918) train depot.
Dates: Sat-Sun 9-10 Oct. & 16-17 Oct.
Location: Brownsmead Train Depot

BLD 127: Stair Layout
Students gain knowledge and practical hands-on experience in materials and methods of construction for stairs. They learn techniques to design and layout stairs. Students will build a simple stair. 
Dates: Sat-Sun 30-31 Oct.
Location: Historic Preservation Shop

BLD 226: Wood Window Restoration
Students learn history and terminology, and gain knowledge and skills to document and restore historic wood windows. Historic wood windows are complex but inherently restorable. Windows consist of numerous parts with different materials. Students will be introduced to documentation methods, appropriate preservation standards, and the use of proper tools and materials for the restoration of historic wood windows.
Dates: Sat-Sun 13-14 Nov. & 20-21 Nov.
