Warren County Tales 2022

August 24, 2022
Warren County Tales 2022

The Wilder Museum presents Warren County Tales “Duty, Terror and Survival,” a WWI diary of Youngsville native, Harold W. Pierce. Join editor Bill Welch, as he shares stories of our local heroes on August 24, 2022 at 6PM.

Pennsylvania’s Harold W. Pierce, Company A, 112th Infantry, 28th Division, kept a diary from April 1917 to November 1918. It is likely that when he typed his diary in the 1970s, he did some editing and probably added some memories prompted by reviewing his miniscule handwriting in the leather journal. Still, it is as if the reader is in the cold, muddy, rat-filled trenches looking over Pierce’s shoulder. Throughout his time as a doughboy, Pierce had an understanding of what the “enemy” was experiencing along with him. He wrote, “In the heat of battle, men do not realize that the enemy is only a scared, frightened boy like we are, killing for self-preservation and because he has to and hating it as bad as we do…I wish I could have met these fellows as friends instead of this.”

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by Fifth Avenue Cake Design.  The Wilder Museum is located at 51 Erie Avenue, Irvine, PA 16329.  For more information, please call (814)723-1795 or visit www.warrenhistory.org. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held inside the museum.

We hope to see you there!
