Preservation Pasadena: Architectural Exploration in 3 Parts

June 17-18, 2023 |
PRESERVATION PASADENA, presented by Pasadena Heritage, is a three-weekend series of tours, programs and events, each with its own architectural theme. Pick your weekend for the style or period you like best, or, better yet, attend all three for an in-depth look at these three very different times and the places that reflect them. Each weekend’s offerings will include tours, lectures and events. Times and ticket prices will vary.
We had a wonderful weekend in March celebrating mid-century architecture and learning about architect A. Quincy Jones from author and preservationist Cory Buckner. The exclusive reception and tour of the beautiful Hixon House was a highlight! We also heard a wonderful program from Googie Modern: Architectural Drawings of Armet Davis Newlove” authors Alan Hess, Michael Murphy, and photographer Jens Lucking and many took the Colorado Boulevard Route 66 Drive-yourself tour.
Tickets are still available. You are invited to take a drive-yourself tour of Colorado Boulevard, part of the world famous Route 66, which preserves many of Pasadena’s iconic Mid-Century commercial buildings. Specifically designed to catch the eye of the motorists who pass by, there are three buildings preserved in the Googie style; Denny’s, the Astro Hotel, and the Swiss Lodge, as well as several others with interesting and remarkable histories.
