Design Evolution: Chicago’s Century of Progress and World Fairs of the 1930s
Thursday, June 8, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM (EDT)
Had you visited Chicago’s Century of Progress International Exposition of 1933-34 you would have:
- seen Sally Rand perform her infamous fan dance (she was arrested four times)
- heard 11-year-old Judy Garland sing, years before she immortalized Over the Rainbow
- heralded the arrival of the German airship Graf Zeppelin
- had a first peek at American dream cars such as the Lincoln Zephyr and Pierce Silver Arrow
- experienced the manifestation of a truly modern design aesthetic that had roots in Paris’s 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes
