The Sinking of the Steamboat Lexington: Long Island's Worst Maritime Disaster

Nov. 14th, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet will host author Bill Bleyer
as he discusses his book, "The Sinking of the Steamboat Lexington on Long
Island Sound". The most luxurious
steamboat caught fire in Jan. 1840; only 4 among the almost 150 on board
survived. The wreck was rediscovered by
a team of divers in 1983. The program
will detail the story of the steamboat from its construction to its demise and
will be held at the Islip Public Library, 71 Monell Ave., 7-9 pm, free and open
