The Spokane Historic Preservation Office is responsible for the stewardship of historic and architecturally significant properties in the City, unincorporated areas of the County, and, upon request, incorporated towns, in order to affect the recognition and preservation of such properties. Our mission is to identify, recognize, preserve, protect, enhance and educate the public about those buildings, districts, landscapes, objects, sites and structures which serve as visible reminders of the historical, pre-historical, architectural, archaeological, educational, and cultural heritage of the City and County.

The intent of our department is to keep qualifying historic buildings in use through their listing on the Spokane Register of Historic Places, incentivize rehabilitation, review changes to historic properties, and promote preservation in all neighborhoods, in balance with property rights protections under Washington state law.
