Bailey will guide guests through Hunter House and provide a brief overview of its social history as well as the physical objects and reproductions that will be included in the upcoming exhibition. They will discuss the ways in which these works will be interpreted and challenge of whose revolution we are commemorating for America’s 250th anniversary, with an emphasis on Indigenous, African and African American perspectives that may have been present within and around Hunter House and Rhode Island during the colonial period.

Participants will also have the opportunity to create a beaded amulet, which is an object of adornment, health and protection found throughout the African diaspora. The craft has been popularized by conceptual artist and scholar Sonya Clark and will be used to begin the tour with a moment of communal making and mindfulness.
