The Preservation Resource Center's Operation Comeback promotes the purchase and renovation of vacant historic properties. Started in 1987 as a focused effort to revitalize the Lower Garden District, OC expanded rapidly and now works with dozens of neighborhood associations and community development corporations citywide to revitalize New Orleans.
The Operation Comeback Revolving Fund: Most of Operation Comeback's current acquisitions and renovations are made possible by the generosity of donors to the Operation Comeback Revolving Fund, established after Katrina by Walter Isaacson, co-chair of the Louisiana Recovery Authority. Once a property is renovated and sold, the proceeds go back into the Revolving Fund and are immediately used to finance the next new construction or renovation project.
Adopt a House: On July 1, 2008, Operation Comeback launched the Adopt a House program in an effort to couple private investment with non-profit expertise. The Adopt a House program gives an individual, organization, foundation, or corporation an opportunity to aid in providing a newly constructed or renovated home to a potential homebuyer, at an affordable price, in one of New Orleans' targeted historic neighborhoods.
