The Department of Art at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in architectural history, beginning fall semester, 2026. Completion of Ph.D. is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire. We seek candidates prepared to teach architectural history courses focusing on a time period prior to 1800. The geographic area of specialization is open, although we especially welcome applications from candidates whose work focuses on regions outside of Europe and North America.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 5 undergraduate courses over the 2026-2027 academic year. Fall offerings will include our 100-level, introductory course on Architecture in Cultural Context. Spring offerings may include courses on topics of the instructor’s design; we particularly welcome coursework that engages with themes such as critical regionalism, phenomenology, or environmental design in a historical context. Responsibilities may also include senior thesis advising.
