A critical economic program needs reauthorization or main streets across the state will be left without essential resources they depend on. Here are three reasons why we need this funding:
- Helps support main streets to add housing in existing buildings.
- Helps support safety: Seismic upgrades
- Supports adaptive reuse and economic vitality.
The Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant provides funding to:
- Acquire, rehabilitate, and construct buildings on properties in designated downtown areas statewide; and
- Facilitate community revitalization that will lead to private investment, job creation or retention, establishing or expanding viable businesses, or creating a stronger tax base.
See Astoria's advocacy letter for an example of the impact main street revitalization grant program and what it did for their community.
These grants give more back to Oregon’s rural and urban communities in so many ways. These dollars spur significant investments at a time we need it most. It is funded through lottery dollars and we are asking for a one time stop gap funding renewal to keep our small towns and economic business districts thriving at a time we need most.
