Utah State History Announces Grants to Local Governments

Salt Lake City, UT – Utah State History has awarded more than $100,000 in matching grants to 22 Certified Local Governments (CLGs) for the 2010-2011 grant year. For more information on the Certified Local Government program, visit http://history.utah.gov.

Centerville - $3,500 for repairs on the National Register-listed Thomas and Sara Whitaker house, to conduct a standard reconnaissance level survey, attend a preservation conference, and publish a historic homes tour booklet.

Draper - $4,000 to hire a professional consultant to prepare 2 National Register nominations, complete an intensive-level survey on 1 historic site, attend a preservation conference, and purchase and install 8 historic markers.

Emery County - $3,000 to purchase and install a historic marker at Temple Mountain.

Eureka - $3,000 to install a new heating system in the National Register-listed Eureka City Hall.

Fillmore - $3,010 for repairs on the National Register-listed Fort Deseret, and to publish a historic sites walking tour brochure.

Grand County - $3,750 to hire a professional consultant to prepare a National Register nomination for the Castleton Hotel, hire a licensed architect for final construction drawings and plans for restoration of the historic Dewey Bridge, and to purchase equipment.

Hurricane - $3,000 for electrical repairs on the National Register-listed Hurricane Library and City Hall.

Leeds - $6,000 for repairs on the National Register-listed CCC Camp and Tithing Office, and to purchase and install 3 historic markers.

Lehi - $5,000 for window repairs on the National Register-listed Lehi Veterans Memorial Building.

Mapleton - $900 to install new metal railings at the National Register-listed Roswell Darius Bird Sr., house.

Morgan County - $910 to hire a professional consultant to prepare a National Register nomination for the Rock School in Round Valley.

Orem - $1,500 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive-level survey documentation on 3 historic buildings.

Park City - $5,000 to hire a professional consultant to prepare feasibility studies for removing/reversing incompatible work on 19 sites that are currently ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

Payson - $5,600 for repairs on the National Register-listed Huish Theater.

Providence - $3,000 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive-level survey documentation on 8 historic buildings, print and install historic district stick-on labels for street signs, and to purchase and install 4 historic district signs.

Salt Lake City - $40,700 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive-level survey documentation on Liberty Park, Memory Grove Park, Fairmont Park, and Reservoir Park, hire a professional consultant to prepare a National Register historic district nomination for the Westmoreland neighborhood, conduct a reconnaissance-level survey for approximately 1,200 buildings in the Liberty Wells neighborhood, and conduct public education and other preservation planning activities.

South Jordan - $5,000 to hire a professional consultant to prepare a preservation plan for preservation work at the Samuel E. Holt Farmstead. St. George - $3,000 for repairs on the National Register-listed Old Washington County Courthouse.

Summit County - $2,850 to hire a professional consultant to provide various services related to rehabilitating the Summit County Hospital or the Boyden Block in Coalville.

Taylorsville - $3,000 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive-level survey documentation on 4 historic buildings and to publish a driving tour booklet of historic Taylorsville-Bennion homes.

Tooele County - $3,000 for printing Heritage Tourism Passports, which will include a map and historic sites throughout the county.

Uintah County - $4,000 for repairs on the National Register-listed Washington School/Vernal Relief Society Hall, purchase and install a historic marker, design and print an updated tour booklet, and inventory, organize and digitize manuscripts and photographs from selected items of the Leo Thorne Collection.
