This year’s list of threatened sites was announced on April 6th at a press conference at the State Capitol in Springfield. The annual "Ten Most Endangered Historic Places" list is designed to focus attention on our state’s historic and irreplaceable sites. The 2011 list brings attention to sites threatened by institutions and local governments, insufficient financing, and notably the nation’s continuing foreclosure crisis. By publicizing these sites, we hope to bolster local advocacy efforts and build momentum towards each property’s eventual preservation.

To view the 2011 Ten Most Endangered Historic Places list, go to http://www.landmarks.org/ten_most.htm

Since the program’s inception in 1995, 46 sites have been saved, 38 have been demolished or substantially altered, and 92 remain threatened to some degree. For a detailed list of all 176 past sites, visit the “Ten Most” Archives at http://www.landmarks.org/ten_most_archive.htm
