What historic place would you hate to lose? As the HPLO continues working with property owners, local advocates, and government agencies to save and re- purpose the properties on our 2011 list of Most Endangered Places, it’s time to start thinking about 2012.
Forms will be available on the HPLO website in late January and anyone can submit a nomination. They will be evaluated on the following criteria:
While barns, schools, theaters, and stadiums made the 2011 list, we also welcome nominations of districts, bridges, landscapes, hotels, and houses.
- Historic significance – should be eligible for the National Register
- Nature and urgency of the threat(s)
- Local support and partnership opportunities
- Viability for rehabilitation and long term sustainability
If you know of historic properties that have fallen on hard times and whose loss would diminish your community, please take action. Nominations are due March 26, 2012, with the announcement and benefit luncheon slated for May 22nd, 2012.
