The rehabilitation of the MacGillivaray’s Building in downtown Baltimore has won the 2007 Preservation Project Award from the Maryland Historical Trust. The building was saved from demolition by a group of neighbors, spearheaded by Midtown Development Corporation, who purchased it at auction. Funding to rehabilitate the building into an upper-end wine shop and six apartments came from a variety of sources, including historic tax credits, the National Trust Community Investment Corporation, the for-profit subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and HGTV, which featured the building in programming. Richard Wagner, AIA, Director and Professor, Master of Arts in Historic Preservation program, and Principal, David H. Gleason Associates, Inc., Architects, was the architect for the project.
