American Art and Visual Culture Seminar: Call for Proposals
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -
Contributed By: Dr. W. M. Scholl Center for American History and Culture
Email The Author: scholl@newberry.org
Website: http://www.newberry.org/newberry-seminar-american-art-and-visual-culture

The Newberry Seminar in American Art and Visual Culture is open to those working in the art history and visual culture of the United States, from the colonial era to the present. The seminar provides a forum for presenting current research, as well as a venue that brings together a diverse community of local and regional Americanists for
intellectual exchange, collegial conversation, and debate. We construe art history and visual culture in broad terms, embracing painting, sculpture, graphic art, architecture, material culture, as well as commercial and mass-mediated art including illustration,
reportage, advertising, caricature, comic art, photography, video, film, and other visual forms. We invite papers that cross and challenge borders both within and outside the discipline that engage questions of methodology and ideology, probe the categories of race, ethnicity, class, and gender, and reflect critically on the state and outlook of the field.

To propose a paper, please send a one-page proposal, a statement explaining the relationship of the paper to your other work, and a brief c.v. to Carmen Jaramillo, Program Assistant, Dr. William M. Scholl Center for American History and Culture, The Newberry. Please send all materials as a single PDF attachment via email to: scholl@newberry.org. Proposals are due on April 1, 2013.

If you are interested in proposing a paper and have questions, please contact seminar coordinators Sarah Burns, Indiana University; Diane Dillon, The Newberry; Erika Doss, University of Notre Dame; or Gregory Foster-Rice, Columbia College.

The Newberry is unable to provide funds for travel or lodging, but can assist in locating discounted accommodations. For more information, please visit http://www.newberry.org/newberry-seminar-american-art-and-visual-culture
