Mid-Century Modern Home Tour to Feature Work of Saul Zaik, Renowned Master of Northwest Regional Style
The annual Mid-Century Modern Home Tour and fund raiser for the Historic Preservation League of Oregon (HPLO) will present a first-ever opportunity to visit six residences designed by Saul Zaik on Saturday, May 11th from 10am to 4pm in Portland.  The tour will include Zaik’s own home and a short program featuring a Q&A with the architect himself.

Zaik, who built on a foundation laid by Pietro Belluschi and John Yeon and has been called a “living legend” of the Northwest Regional style by architecture critics, is a robust 84 and still maintains his practice.  He personally selected the homes featured on the tour as representative of his residential work from the 1950s through 70s.  Several of the homes slated for the tour are in near-original condition, while others have been updated and interpreted.

“We are so pleased to shine a well-deserved spotlight on Saul’s illustrious career,” says HPLO Executive Director Peggy Moretti.  “Saul’s contribution to Northwest architecture is very significant and we expect to see a number of his homes nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in the near future.”

Advance tickets will go on sale through the HPLO website in March.  All proceeds benefit the programs of the non-profit Historic Preservation League of Oregon (HPLO).  Visit historicpreservationleague.org or call 503-243-1923.
