Adventures In Preservation Teams Up With The Fairfield Foundation to Uncover Mysterious History of Fairfield Manor House in Gloucester, Virginia
GLOUCESTER, VIRGINIA- Adventures in Preservation is teaming up with The Fairfield Foundation to preserve the site of one of Virginia's most magnificent and historically significant manor houses at Fairfield Plantation. Five generations of the Burwell family lived at and maintained the beautiful plantation, which was built in 1694 and destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1897. All that remains of the house's rich history is its brick foundation and cellar.

Adventures in Preservation and The Fairfield Foundation are looking for volunteers to assist in excavations revealing the layout and design of the original manor house, preserving the historic brick structure, and documenting Fairfield's mysterious lost story. We will be on site in Gloucester, Virginia on August 17-23 and August 24-30 and hope to see you there!

The goal is to uncover and document information that helps visitors understand the significance of the manor house and how it relates to the landscape and affected the lives of the owners and the enslaved workers who toiled at Fairfield for over two hundred years. For more information, please visit adventuresinpreservation.org.

To learn more about hands project and others, please contact Judith Broeker at 303 444-0128 or trips@adventuresinpreservation.org.
