Essex Heritage Announces Fundraiser to Restore Bakers Island Lighthouse
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -
Contributed By: Essex Heritage
Website: http://www.EssexHeritage.org/Bakers

May 14, 2015 (Salem, MA) – Essex Heritage, a non-profit that manages and provides numerous programs preserving and enhancing Essex County’s historic, natural and cultural sites, is slated to launch a Kickstarter fundraising campaign on May 20 to raise $30,000 in 30 days to restore the historic Bakers Island Lighthouse.

Bakers Island is located at the mouth of the harbor in Salem, Massachusetts. A lighthouse was built on the island in 1820–on the site of an even earlier one – to help sailing ships get into Salem Harbor (which was once one of the most famous, richest, and busiest seaports in the United States). This Bakers Island Lighthouse is still in use today–its beacon shines out to sea but there are no longer any lighthouse keepers to keep the light shining. The deed to historic Bakers Island Light Station was transferred on August 27, 2014 from the United States government to Essex Heritage.

Visit www.EssexHeritage.org/Bakers to learn more about Bakers Island Light Station. More information about the Kickstarter campaign will be posted to the webpage and on Kickstarter.com when the campaign goes “live”!

Have A Brew for Bakers on May 20!

Essex Heritage will host a campaign kickoff event on May 20 beginning at 5:30 PM at the Salem Beer Works (278 Derby Street, Salem, 01970). The event, “Bakers Bash: Have a Brew for Bakers”, is a unique opportunity for the public to learn more about the lighthouse and restoration efforts. It will also feature a special, limited edition batch of Salem Beer Works’ famous Bakers Island Blonde, brewed exclusively to help support the lighthouse restoration project.  Bakers Island Blonde will be available on draft and in limited edition 22 ounce bottles – only available during the Essex Heritage crowdsourcing efforts to raise funds for lighthouse repair.

Exquisite historic photos of the island will be available for viewing and guests can learn more about pledging much needed funds for lighthouse restoration. Essex Heritage is using a crowd sourcing campaign via Kickstarter to raise $30,000. Pledge rewards include swag as well as exclusive trips to the island.

Reservations to the event are not required, but are requested:  To RSVP to the event, contact Robyn Giannopolo, Development Assistant by phone, 978-740-0444 or by email, RobynG@essexheritage.org
