2016 Global Mural Conference: Sponsor A Mural
Global Mural Conference Seeks Locations for 20 Murals in New York State

The 10th Global Mural Conference will be held in Fairport, NY, September 18-25, 2016. One attraction at the conference will be the Erie Canal Heritage Mural Expo (“Expo”), in which up to 20 international and US-based artists will each complete a mural along side one another under a tent, open to pubic viewing. The murals will be completed in the span of 6 days, after which, the murals will be placed in permanent locations in communities along the  canal corridor in New York State. These murals, each displaying an aspect of our heritage, serve to beautify our communities, draw in visitors, and act as a long-lasting educational tool. Locations for these 20 murals are currently being sought by organizers of the Expo.

A Call for Artists was issued in February, across the country and globe. Communities will be able to select a mural artist from the many applications received by the Artist Selection Committee based on samples of the artists’ work, which will be available on the GMC website.

The event will be free and open to the public, so that visitors to the Expo will be able to watch the artists painting live, speak to the artists, take photos, and watch the mural-painting process unfold over the course of just a few days.

Any group across New York State that has been looking to highlight regional heritage, local pride and attract visitors can sponsor a mural from one of these esteemed artists. At the end of the conference the mural will be ready to become a permanent installation in the sponsoring community. Global Mural Conference Committee chair Mark DeCracker, co-founder of Mural Mania (a NY-based organization dedicated to procuring public murals) believes that “this is a way to get many high-quality murals installed simultaneously in this heritage-rich area! We are seeking communities who are ready to be included in this public art movement.”

Members of an advisory committee will be able to work with interested communities to help establish a proper location for their mural, and help them to decide which mural design best suits their community. Murals painted at the  Expo can also be sponsored by organizations, institutions, or corporations. The goal is to find a home for all 20 murals before the start of the Expo in September. To start the process of securing a mural for your town, school, organization, or company, please contact Mark DeCracker at (315) 573-8170 or mark@gmc2016.com.

For more information about the murals or the artists, please contact Amy Colburn (585) 261-7874 or amy@amycolburn.com. The Global Mural Conference website is www.GMC2016.com
