Bill to Establish State Historic Tax Credit Introduced in Florida

From Preservation Action:

Legislation was introduced in the Florida House and Senate to create a state Historic Tax Credit program. The Main Street Tourism and Historic Revitalization Act (SB 1310/HB 247), would establish a 20% tax credit for qualified rehabilitation expenses to restore and preserve historic properties, with an additional 10% credit available for properties that are designated as part of Florida's Main Street program.

This week, SB 1310 was considered by the Senate Committee on Commerce and Tourism and passed unanimously. The CEO and President of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Melissa Wyllie, testified at the hearing saying "This tool will help protect many of Florida's irreplaceable historic resources and ultimately provide jobs and strengthen communities throughout the state."

The bill now moves to the Committee on Finance and Tax in the Senate, while the companion bill in the House is still waiting to be added to the House Tourism, Energy, and Infrastructure Committee's agenda.

Our partners at the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation are helping to lead the advocacy effort. Check out their alert to learn more and find out how you can take action!
