Request for Proposals

1.1.Introduction

The Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF) seeks proposals from consultants to research and prepare a planning, protocol, and execution framework for preservation easements. In keeping with NRF’s broader objectives, this project shall take into consideration best preservation practices including socially- and technologically- progressive concepts.

1.2.Project Description

Founded in 1968 by philanthropist Doris Duke, NRF is nearly 55 years old. As the organization approaches this milestone anniversary, it is starting to think creatively about the future stewardship of its collection, which is composed of nearly eighty eighteenth- and nineteenth-century structures. Historically, NRF has operated as an informal “revolving fund” by buying and restoring properties and then selling them into private ownership. The organization wishes to formalize this process by investigating related policies and procedures.  NRF seeks a consultant to research comparable easement programs to inform the development of a plan, protocol, and execution framework for the organization’s easement management.
