The Organization
Glessner House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a
National Historic Landmark. It is widely recognized as the urban residential
masterpiece of architect H. H. Richardson. We serve our guests through a dynamic
array of in-person and online public programs ranging from tours and lectures
to concerts and culinary events. We are known for our significant Arts &
Crafts collection, our meticulous restorations, and the quality and depth of
our interpretation, making our stories relevant to today’s audiences.

The Position
- The Assistant to the Director reports to the Executive Director and provides support across all aspects of operations
- The position is full-time exempt, salary is $50,000/year

Key Requirements
- Three years of experience in a mid-level management position with a non-profit
- Proficiency with a variety of technology utilized for meetings, programming, and marketing
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities with grace and good humor
- Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed, and to take on tasks ranging from strategic planning to changing lightbulbs, and from improving operational efficiencies to setting up tables and chairs for events
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Executive Director, board, and staff to implement strategic plan
- Assist with programming and exhibition development and execution
- Oversee social media strategy and implementation
- Work with board committees to accomplish their goals and objectives
- Help plan and execute fundraising and development-related activities and events
- Coordinate and manage venue rentals by outside parties
- Provide assistance with executing building renovation and restoration projects
- Perform HR functions
- Handle accounts receivable and payable
- Manage office technology and serve as liaison with IT consultant
Location
Glessner House, an anchor in the landmark
Prairie Avenue Historic District, is located at 1800 South Prairie Avenue in
Chicago’s South Loop, a dynamic and rapidly developing Chicago neighborhood two
miles south of downtown.
