McKim, Mead & White: The Early Years
April 29, 2021 |
One was raised in a notable Abolitionist household. One's father was a poorly adjusted snob and intellectual and what we might today call "financially challenged". One was the cousin of a U.S. President - a connection that never proved useful. Only one got a college degree (and likely never designed anything).
Who were McKim, Mead & White before they became the Starchitects of the Gilded Age?
Even this illustrious trio - responsible for the Morgan Library, the original Penn Station, and many other timeless buildings - had to make their way up from someplace. Word is that as young men, they individually were...undistinguished. How did they find their way to one another and then to the top of their profession?
LANDMARK WEST! is honored to have Prof. Mosette Broderick, the esteemed architectural historian who delightfully puts the "story" back in "history" (and also happens to be an expert on McKim, Mead & White) delve into the little-known early years of the individuals who became the icons.
A special one-night-only presentation you won't want to miss!
