ARCH 215: History of Pacific Northwest Architecture

Instructor: John Goodenberger, Architectural Historian and Preservationist
This course presents a chronological study of Pacific Northwest regional building types, stylistic characteristics and architects. Students will learn Pacific Northwest building types and their stylistic characteristics, the major periods of development in regional architecture, the historical development of materials and methods, and the development of stylistic characteristics in response to political, social, environmental and economic influences. The historic neighborhoods of Astoria will be used to illustrate topics.
This introductory class is open to anyone interested in architecture, history or building.
