Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm at the Brooklyn Museum

May 3 - August 18, 2024

The Brooklyn Museum has announced an impending exhibition dubbed Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm, slated to run at the New York location from May 3 through August 18, 2024. The show aligns with the material presented in the musician’s 2023 release photo book, which goes by the same name.

Consisting of more than 250 photographs taken during The Beatles’ heyday in the early 1960s, much of the content was taken on McCartney’s Pentax film camera. In doing so, he transports the viewer back to the band’s initial U.S. tour, which notably assisted in their ascent and global success, and beyond. The batch of photos was only recently rediscovered and brings McCartney’s singular vantage point from behind the lens into focus.

“Since first arriving in New York in February 1964, Paul McCartney has built a strong, everlasting connection to the city. His vibrant photographs from The Beatles’ first visit capture the energy of the city, the excitement of the American fans, and the frenzy of the band’s status as celebrities,” offered Catherine Futter, Director of Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of Decorative Arts.

“Yet the images also record The Beatles’ fun and delight with each other. Through McCartney’s lens, we feel the intensity of being at the center of such extraordinary events,” Futter concluded. Notably, the exhibition initially ran at the National Portrait Gallery in London prior to the impending New York debut.
