Celebrate 150 years of the Perry Mansion!
For 150 years, the Perry Mansion has stood as one of the most remarkable survivors of Los Angeles’ earliest days. Built in 1876—when the city was still young and rapidly changing—the home was designed to impress. With its ornate woodwork, grand staircase, and richly detailed interiors, it reflected a level of craftsmanship and ambition that defined a new era of prosperity in Southern California.
The house was built for William Hayes Perry, a prominent Los Angeles businessman and lumberyard owner whose work helped shape the growing city around him. At a time when access to quality building materials was transforming how Los Angeles developed, Perry was at the center of that change—making this home not just a residence, but a reflection of the industry that helped build the region.
Originally known as Mt. Pleasant House, the mansion has lived many lives. It has been a family home, a symbol of status, and—thanks to preservation efforts—a rare window into what Los Angeles looked and felt like before it became the city we know today. Now preserved at Heritage Square Museum for more than a half-century, it remains one of the most striking examples of Victorian-era architecture in the region.
This September, we’re celebrating its 150th anniversary with a one-night event:
