Galveston Island, Texas, March 30, 2026 – Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) invites residents and visitors alike to experience historic downtown Galveston through the return of the 2026 Strand Summer Series, a free, family-friendly lineup of outdoor concerts and movies running from April through September.

"GHF’s Strand Summer Series is about creating shared experiences in the heart of our historic downtown, where residents can connect with their community, and visitors can feel part of Galveston’s story," said Will Wright, Galveston Historical Foundation’s Chief Creative Officer. "By offering free concerts and films in these iconic public spaces, we’re not only supporting local businesses and artists, but also making it easy for everyone to enjoy the island’s culture in a welcoming, accessible way."

Set in the heart of The Strand Historic District, Galveston Historical Foundation’s Strand Summer Series activates two of downtown’s most beloved spaces, Saengerfest Park and Hendley Green, with a curated mix of live music and classic films designed to bring the community together throughout the summer months. Details and music VIP packages (which include artist meet-and-greets, discounts, and more) are available at https://www.galvestonhistory.org/events/strand-summer-series.

This year’s program is supported by a generous anonymous donation for music programming, Visit Galveston, The Galveston County Daily News, Del Papa Distributing and Saint Arnold Brewing Company, HomeTown Bank, Yaga’s, and The Tremont House.

About Galveston Historical Foundation:

Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) was formed as the Galveston Historical Society in 1871 and merged with a new organization formed in 1954 as a nonprofit entity devoted to historic and maritime and heritage tourism in Galveston County.

GHF’s African American Heritage Committee was established in 2002 at the 1859 Ashton Villa, when more than forty community members gathered with a shared passion for preserving the island’s Black history. Since its founding, this committee has dedicated itself to identifying, commemorating, and preserving historic sites important to African Americans and the Galveston community.
