Since 2005, Brownstone Doors Co. has manufactured Landmarks-compliant, historically accurate doors and entrance assemblies in New York City. Join us for this Preservation School program with founder Nathan Shellkopf, a leading authority on the history and craft of hardwood entry doors. Drawing on examples of his work across the city, Shellkopf will share his process for researching and creating historic brownstone doors. Uncover how architectural precedent informs his designs, how different materials behave, the demands placed on doors as the defining elements of a building’s exterior, and the decision making process behind what to preserve, what to reinterpret, and what to leave untouched.
