With design studios. workshops, classrooms in an old trolly barn on Meeting Street, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the American College of the Building Arts is the preeminent school for the building arts combined with a liberal arts education.

The next generation of preservation tradespeople is learning timber framing, plasterwork, stone carving, woodworking, blacksmith skills, drafting and design. In an eight-semester Bachelor of Applied Science curriculum, students and emerging professionals do three externships. The program is modeled after the European master-apprentice tradition.
