Historic Hawai‘i Foundation, in partnership with the Department of the Interior Office of Native Hawaiian Relations and National Park Service will offer a free webinar highlighting recent case studies of co-stewardship for the perpetuation of traditional knowledge and positive preservation outcomes.

The webinar provides training to members of the public, private, nonprofit or government sectors who own, manage, steward or are interested in preserving historic cultural and built sites.

The 90-minute webinar will highlight how Native Hawaiian Organizations are advancing cultural stewardship and preservation efforts grounded in ‘ike kūpuna (ancestral knowledge) through place-based stewardship, community engagement, and restoration practices. These concepts will be explored through two recent case studies which explore approaches for integrating Indigenous knowledge and traditional practices into the stewardship and management of historic properties and cultural resources significant to Native Hawaiians.

  • Caring for Iwi Kūpuna at Mokuoeo, Keʻehi, Moanalua Ahupuaʻa, Kona Moku, Oʻahu (Mauliola Keʻehi and Huliauapa‘a)
  • Stewardship at Luluku Archaeological and Field Complex, Kāne‘ohe, O‘ahu (‘Āina Momona)

The program will conclude with a panel discussion exploring project impacts, challenges, process and lessons learned. Participants are encouraged to submit questions.
