Property History

This stately home was originally constructed to serve as a boys’ school known as the Piedmont Institute, which officially opened its doors in 1850.

During the Civil War, the school was temporarily closed, and the building was repurposed as a hospital to care for the wounded. After the war, Piedmont reopened as a girls’ school, continuing its role in education for many years. Eventually, it served as a public school before being thoughtfully improved and transformed into a private residence in 1913.
