Property Description
Exceptional c.1872 Restored Victorian Estate — One Block from Forsyth Park.
A rare opportunity to own an extraordinary c.1872 freestanding Victorian estate in the heart of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District, ideally situated just one block from Forsyth Park.
Thoughtfully restored while preserving the architectural character that makes Savannah’s historic homes so distinctive, 207 East Gwinnett Street offers an exceptional combination of period craftsmanship, gracious proportions and modern comfort.
Beyond its handsome historic façade, the residence reveals soaring 12-foot ceilings, restored original heart pine floors, six original marble fireplaces, intricate plaster medallions, exceptional millwork, transoms, pocket doors, crystal doorknobs and beautiful bay windows. A grand double entry introduces gracious interiors filled with natural light and remarkable architectural detail.
The expansive double parlor is distinguished by twin marble fireplaces, original details and beautifully restored floors. Throughout the residence, carefully considered improvements complement rather than compete with the home’s historic character.
Three renovated kitchens feature quartz countertops, premium stainless-steel KitchenAid appliances and polished nickel fixtures. The parlor-level kitchen is especially striking with its classic checkerboard marble floor.
The property offers unusual flexibility. It may be enjoyed as a grand single-family estate with a private carriage residence, or configured to accommodate a flexible three-residence arrangement—ideal for extended family, guests or other residential possibilities.
Primary suites on both the first and second floors feature sitting areas, fireplaces and renovated baths. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on both levels.
Outside, a private brick courtyard beneath a magnificent mature live oak creates a quintessentially Savannah setting for outdoor dining and entertaining. Landscaped grounds, off-street parking and a separately accessed one-bedroom, one-bath carriage residence complete the property.
Extensive improvements have been undertaken throughout the estate, including a new standing-seam metal roof with replaced rafters, extensive exterior restoration, refurbished windows and shutters, upgraded electrical systems, restored heart pine floors, renovated kitchens and baths, new lighting, custom exterior doors and significant landscaping and courtyard improvements.
Yet perhaps the property’s greatest luxury is its location.
From the front door, Forsyth Park is just one block away, while Savannah’s celebrated squares, restaurants, cafés, architecture, cultural attractions and everyday conveniences are readily accessible. It offers the increasingly rare opportunity to combine the scale and privacy of a substantial estate with the pleasures of a genuinely walkable historic city lifestyle.
207 East Gwinnett Street is more than a beautifully restored residence—it is an opportunity to become the next steward of a remarkable piece of Savannah’s architectural heritage.

Property History
This beautiful Italianate Victorian home was built for Mary Jaudon, the grand daughter of Amos Scudder. Mary was a Scudder by birth. Her grandfather, Amos Scudder, was a prominent architect and builder. Among his many successes are the Savannah Theater and the First Presbyterian Church. His sons John and Ephraim, in carrying on his legacy of building in the city, formed J& E Scudder Corporation. They are responsible for completing their father's work on "Scudder's Row" - Gordon Street row houses built in 1855 and are credited with the construction of numerous other residences throughout the city. John Scudder and his wife Sarah Amanda Crawford Willson were married in 1839 and their daughter Mary Elizabeth was born on July 30, 1841.Mary's husband, William Jaudon had a clothing business under the name of Jaudon and Brooks. Their business was located on St. Julian St.. Amos Scudder was instrumental in the development of the Ogeechee canal so goods could be transported from Savannah to Florida. A research about 207 East Gwinnett can be found at the MPC with the Victorian books section. The connection to Amos Scudder is a great addition to this building.
