The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) is now accepting applications for Cultural Heritage AmeriCorps Volunteers for the 2026–2027 service year. Starting September 3, 2026, these full-time, one-year positions offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience while making a lasting impact in the highlands of West Virginia.
What You’ll Do:

Preserve & Interpret: Create museum exhibits, organize archives, lead history tours, and preserve historic structures.

Engage Communities: Support local festivals, promote regional artists, and boost rural economic development through heritage tourism.

Build Skills: Participate in professional development training, collaborative team service projects, and networking opportunities.
Benefits & Compensation:

Living Stipend: $21,500 over the course of the service year.

Education Award: $7,395 Segal Education Award upon successful completion.

Tuition Perks: A West Virginia Tuition Waiver is available for eligible members.
Who Should Apply: We strongly encourage applicants with degrees or experience in Public History, Historic Preservation, Archival Preservation, History, or Public Administration.
Requirements: Strong written/oral communication in English, attention to detail, and proficiency with standard computer programs. Experience with archival work or collection cataloging software is a plus. A personal vehicle is highly recommended. (Note: Conservation positions are also available!)
