Preservation AmeriCorps, Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation
The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia in partnership with the Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation (BARC) are seeking a Preservation AmeriCorps to support historic preservation, facilities management, event coordination, educational programming, and research at BARC’s 3 historic properties in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia.
BARC creates arts-driven opportunities for education, employment, and entertainment at three historic properties in downtown Bluefield and leverages its real estate development expertise to spark the revitalization of neighborhoods across southern West Virginia.
The AmeriCorps member will assist mainly with the historic preservation and educational programs at the Granada Theater - a fully-restored 1927 vaudeville theater with an original Wurlitzer pipe organ, but they will also help with events management and promotions at the Paine Gallery and Raleigh Street Cinemas. This opportunity offers an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in historic preservation, arts and culture, community development and nonprofit management to gain practical experience while contributing to the revitalization of downtown Bluefield and southern West Virginia.
The Preservation AmeriCorps will serve full-time, 35-40 hours per week, primarily at the Granada Theater and Raleigh Street Cinemas location at 537 Commerce Street in downtown Bluefield. Some events will take place at the Paine Gallery in the Bluefield Arts Center located at 500 Bland Street, also in Bluefield. Projects for the Preservation AmeriCorps will include:
- Routine maintenance, repairs, and preservation of BARC’s historic venues;
- Event coordination and execution at BARC’s three historic venues;
- Educational programming planning, scheduling, promotions, and implementation with target students in grades Pre-K through 12
- Volunteer management and recruitment
